50 days. That's how long the average Indian smartphone user spends per year on just four apps: YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. And that's just the average.
I've always wanted to run this calculation. Everywhere you look, screens are glowing. On the metro, in cabs, while walking. Drivers at red lights. Friends at dinner. Us, right now, scrolling through LinkedIn.
These platforms enable learning, connection, and genuine entertainment. But how much of this usage is intentional vs. infinite scroll? Value vs. vapour? 50 days is enough time to learn a language, read 25 books, build a side project, or master a skill you’ve been postponing.
Our attention is our most valuable asset, one we can never get back. Yet we’re giving it away in 2-hour increments every day. I'm not here to judge. I'm part of this stat too. But 50 days is a wild number to sit with. That's almost two months of our year, gone before we notice.
